Not sure exactly why but this can be helpful at least for quick fix, I had a clients forum with about 500 instances of "claudebot" and adding it to the bots list cleared up the slow forum issue. I'm assuming it has something to do with the sessions and/or the IP checks under security settings since that bot is coming from multiple IP's.The information you supplied is incorrect, you shouldn’t be randomly adding bad bots to spiders/robots, if they’re bad bots there are other ways to deal with them with .htaccess or robots.txt.
That said using "bot" by itself for the user agent match is a little too generic and even if it's sorted for the last match you may still potentially have unwanted match. Obviously blocking unwanted traffic through other means is the best way to deal with it.
